For the first 4 weeks of the season the U7 age group will train for 1 hour, moving up to 1.5 hours through to the end of the coaching season in July. The focus in the first few weeks will be on the basics of catching, throwing and fielding. The children are always desparate to “score runs” but we need to instill these core skills first. Rest assured that they will all get to bat in the not to distant future.
We try to teach in 3′s to help the children remember. Using catching as an example they will be taught where their fingers should point, how to “curl” their fingers around the ball and how to cushion the catch. The more practice they can have the better!
We are still on the lookout for an U7 age-group representative to help with the non-cricket side of the club. Any volunteers?
